For the Monica Danet Prize, the founders of Galerie kreo Clémence and Didier Krzentowski invite us to design a lamp. We start with a material generally used to make mock-ups: balsa, a lightweight wood which is easy to work. As a sort of enlargement of a scale model, the lamp is produced in small series by Swiss model-makers, meticulously assembling solid pieces of CNC-machined balsa. The object appears massive but is actually very light. As in the production of traditional surfboards, the brittle balsa is covered with layers of resin that harden its surface while keeping it lightweight.
