This project began in 2011 with a visit to Amorim in Portugal, the largest producer of cork in the world. This is a beautiful industry, with a production process which includes the cultivation of cork oaks, whose bark is harvested without damaging the trees. The production of traditional, solid cork wine stoppers generates up to 70% of waste cork. To recycle it, Amorim grinds it into small particles, which can be molded into different shapes. As we have good childhood memories of using cork as a float, we design these little boats as bath toys.
